College? for game designing and i can actually earn a doctor degree in that college, and if you know the minimum GPA they accept, let me know :) i was thinking about doing whiteboy's suggestion, about Full Sail, but they don't do master's or doctor's, so i researched a bit, for a diff. college and i got as close as a master's but not at the doctor's, i need to know the min. GPA so i can aim for that GPA and so on, some help would be GREATLY appreciated

Is a bit early for college, your decision of becoming a game designer might change to another profession. Getting a professional degree is very hard work (I was thinking in Engineering) and takes a lot of effort. I did not think you could get a phd in game designing though.

First of all, I'm not exactly sure there are majors in Gaming Design specifically, at accredited Colleges and University. That being said, pursuing a masters and then a Ph.D. in Gaming design is most likely not even possible at that point.

Here's a good link at what I googled: http://www.finegamedesign.com/education.html

You need to keep in mind that an education in digital art and programming is already established in many educational institutions but gaming design is not. Why? Well because gaming design is way too specific, all it does is "train" you specifically to do one thing in the computer world; build games.

If you are going to spend your money on schooling, then grad school, then even grad school again for your Ph.D. why not do it in something that can be used on a broader scale, say computer science.

Carnegie-Mellon has a good school for what your looking for I think:
http://www.etc.cmu.edu/

Cogswell:
http://www.cogswell.edu/computerandvideo.html

Then there's MIT:
http://orwant.com/mas490/ Last time I checked you need to be ridiculously smart and rich to get in there, but why not go for it.

The website I stated earlier is a good base but google it and do some research on your own. You got advisers at your school right? Use them! You got some math teachers and maybe some comp. people at your high school? try asking them a few questions. The resources are there its up to you to go out and look for 'em. good luck! and no, its not too early to start brainstorming the, arguably, most important years of your life.

Download a Program called Alice, and start getting used to that style of video game making, or you could also try a program called DEV-C++ and look for some tutorials for it which is what we use in school in my programming class.

I'd recommend actually making some flash games while in highschool. It starts you out and you'll have some material to show when you get to college.

Also, Makeshift is right. You'd be hard-pressed to find a college that would have gaming design as a MAJOR. There are definitely some colleges, however, that have many classes with that focus and are definitely more into that than other colleges. Look for those schools. You won't be doing JUST gaming design, but you'll do a lot more of it at those schools than anywhere else.

You can also look into distance learning from some of the major universities. They have free web classes available.

Alice is an animation programming that is kinda dumbed down. I gotta use it in my media creation class and it's rough but free and cool to check out.

And I'd follow what awol and bob said.

Devry- thats where i was planning on going for a bit, but then i just opted to get an engineering degree from a reg 4 yr college. Computer Engineering. Getting a degree like this will leave you with many options in the end. A lot of people say its better to get a college degree like this and then with that knowledge go into game design or whatever. Thats how I ended up because I was even about to go to the Art Institute in San Fran...

that's what brian said, so nty :Po

and i was planning to do this: game designing as major and genetics as a 2nd major or minor, imma do research if GD can be a major, but if it isn't that's kinda dumb, you can make alot of money with that thing, yet it isn't a major? :S

okay, i found a college that's all about game designing, it's called ITT Tech, and it's in Chantilly, Virginia :D (not far from me) but it doesn't say anything about the minimum GPA, i also found an article about game designing and it said the world is taking it more seriously etc. maybe something can happen in the future, hopefully something does happen, if there's a better college than ITT Tech, let me know

Edit: ok fine, minor in game designing and major in video game programming, makeshift? or is that, too, a minor?
