If you have been paying attention to this lately, you know that it has a lot of controversy to it. the writer, pullman, is an atheist that has let the world know he is atheist. whatever floats your boat. this new book is supposed to be anti god, and more important to some people, anti catholic. Doucheahue, for the catholic legion or whatever they are called, has written a report on how it is a staealth attack on christianity. pullman has rebuted that in no way does he kill god, but rather the machine of a regime that resembles the catholic church and their leader, who is called god. personally, as a christian, i am embarrassed by these actions of a book boycott. Not only does that proove pullmans point, a valid one at that, it makes the rest of us non-zealots look bad. I was just wondering if anyone has read the book, because as of yet im basing my opinion off the myriad of others i have read.

Last I knew, from reading, Pullman was actually a confirmed agnostic. Same thing though, in some eyes.

I think the controversy is ridiculous. It's a work of fiction. It should not be a big deal.

one group of people has the right to do whatever they want. they are welcome to boycott it if they would like.

there is nothing telling them that they are not. people boycott things all the time.

why is this one controversial. you boycott church.

i do not understand how this is news worthy.

I just think it's ridiculous. It's not like I'm gonna force anyone to buy the book or watch the movie. And it's not controversial for me, it's "controversy" for the people who are boycotting it.

i'm not saying it is for you personally. i'm saying all around its not "controversy", its offensive to what they believe. and if them and a bunch of their friends want to "not buy" the book. then thats their "God Given Right"

:)

The idea of the catholic arguement is that parents taking their kids to see it who will like it(it's toned down on the anti establishment things) and will buy them the books seeing as how it's right before christmas, thus being a "stealth attack", as donahue put it.

People said the same thing about fucking Harry Potter.

People will always be there to raise hell "for god".
When people feel like theres a cause to fight for, it attracts more people to fight for the cause. This ALWAYS means more money.

It's like pr0n. It's not for everyone, but you'll never make it go away. Some of us like it too much!

Personally, I enjoy anything that will expose me to a new way of thinking. Whether it be a religious zealot movie like "The Passion of Christ", or a devil movie like "Exorcism" or "The Omen", or a serial killer documentary type movie like "The Manson Family Story", all these movies should do for a person is widen their scope of information and ways of thinking. Staying close minded on ANY topic will lead you nowhere.

Some people may see me as a hypocrite, being a die hard atheist and all, but I've been exposed to alot wider range of religion than most people I believe, and have never been moved by anything that would convince me to worship anything other than my own life.

I see both your points. You're right, it is their right. I just think their reasons are ridiculous. It's bordering on paranoia. And, I know, I know...Paranoia is their right, too... I suppose more than it being ridiculous, I find it sad. Then again, so is a number of the banning of books from the U.S. I've heard of a few, and think it's just ridiculous. They are just books. We have video games worse than those books.

(Although, I agree with Australia. Catcher In The Rye should be banned, BECAUSE IT JUST PLAIN SUCKS!!!)

There are certain books in the US that are banned, as well as certain books banned in other countries. One of the more notable bans is A Catcher in the Rye, in Australia. They won't even let it be shipped there. Not that I blame them; I had to read it my sophomore year, and it blew.(IMO)

Who is banning books? Good question. All I know is; they're banned. And no, I don't remember all of which ones are banned. I just remember my teacher listing them off. Look it up somewhere.

Why'd they ban Catcher in the Rye? It wasn't an offensive book - but Christ did it suck.

The book ban it totally stupid. The people boycotting the book are just baseing their opinion off what "boycott leaders" are saying. The dont even have a clue what they're not buying in the first place, let alone why.

If the actually want to fully understand what they're boycotting, they need to buy the book, and a hustla
