So my computer broke down and my brother moved in with me and he has his computer but for some reason everytime i enter agame abunch of lines pop up on the screen and it glitches and i cant see anything and i have too restart the computer so its going to kinda suck but is it because his vid. card or his monitor? if anyone knows but yea ill be back on whenever i can soo its like this 
if theirs any advice too fix it itd be greately appreciated

Well, if the monitor works when loading your start up screen. It's probably not that. So, chances are that it is the vid card. But see ya when your back. |

Try setting steam to use directx rather than opengl. If that dont work you might want to try software mode (It has the worst resolution but worth a shot for now). See which runs better on your videocard. If you're having trouble making the switch from steam menu let me know and I'll send you the launch options configs, its easier if you do it in-game though. Radeon 9800 pro Sword its not just steam its anygame he has on his computer so its most likely his vid. card but idk it was working perfect yesterday i mean their was alittle glitching but it went away after and today it just started doing this so idk im positive he doesnt have a virus too |

That sounds like a monitor issue smack, like when it heats up or something I had that happen to me before on an old monitor. But try the settings I mentioned earlier it still might help. Anyway there's something you can check also, unplug the monitor from the cpu and check the cord pins if they're all intact. Missing pins can also cause the screen to shake or mess with the display like in your case. |

If it was the monitor, it would not show up in a screen shot. Most likely your vid card is overheating (artifacts are 90% of the time from too much heat or overclocked, and I doubt yours is overclocked) Open your computer, check your vid card, make sure the fan is even turning on it (if not, there's your problem), if it is spinning, then remove it and see if it needs to be cleaned. If it is full of dust (in the fan/heatsink), then dust it out, and while you are at it, dust out the CPU fan and heatsink. If it was really dusty, that could be it too. If there is not dust blocking the heatsink, then you can try installing new drivers, go to ati.com and download your driver then install it. Let me know what happens. |

alright ill try too dust it out but my brother said it might be because the computer might of overheated because he drove too vegas from cali so thats probably the reason but he just installed all the new drives off of ati.com so it might of been something from the drive too here but ill buy acan of air tomarrow and just get all the dust out then |

yea the vid. card is probably fried or not getting enough air im actually able too play some games if i take off the side panel and have a fan blowing on the vid. card but thats the only way and the fan is on but idk why its not getting enough air |

Yeah, I don't think I will be on for a while either. My screen is letting me down and I can't play, so my cousin is going to check it out in a few days and will probably figure out what the problem is and fix it. He think that the resolution is the problem (told him the situation over the phone). Cause I can start up the computer choose user but when my desktop pops up my screen goes black. The worst thing will maybe be that I have to buy a new computer but I doubt that. Even tho I want a new one and the one I have is the crappiest ever. So yeah... See you in a few days or maybe weeks. You never know.

Smack, is there a fan attached to your video card? Is there any other fan inside of your computer's case, or is there JUST the one on the back? If you have a fan attached to anything else inside of the case, let Cole know on here and he can tell you how to clean it. |
