lol me too. i think that they should keep "in god we trust" in all of our things but this is taking it too far. im christian but if you want the bible in your curriculum, go to a catholic school (which i have to go to next year)

All I have to say is freedom of religion is freedom from religion.

Nice words ^

this are also nice words...

"When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it so that its professors are obliged to call for help of the civil power, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one."

- Benjamin Franklin, Works, Vol. XIII, p. 506

SO...to offer the course as optional would be un-constitutional?
noone is requiring you to go to that class..

i dont choose to learn about african american history, THAT is forced down my throat.

how is that any different.

its the plight and struggle of a people, where the old testament is technically no different.

Well, first of all, African American History is not religion. then we look at that part of the constitution that says that you have to keep religion separate from state. What Chuck Norris wants is to put the Bible in Curriculum's for Schools. If that is put in public school systems, I would want EVERY single religion taught next to the bible. I am really interested in this Scientology.

Yeah, I wouldn't really have a problem with it unless it was forced on to me...Options aren't bad.(And trust me, I've had problems with my classes because I didn't like the material and it was forced on me...)

The Christians aren't a religion either. They are a group of people, much like the African Americans.

How is their plight any different?

Why shouldn't we be allowed to learn about them? ESPECIALLY if its optional.

I wouldn't care if it was optional. Everyone has their way, as long as its not taught to me and that they don't teach religion its fine by me.

"God knows we need it." May have been a slight over-doing it when advocating for HISTORY lessons, but I won't go there...

The fact is, if they want to teach history using the bible as an example text-book, let them. If a kid feels like they're forcing religion on him, he can just drop the class.

I personally have the confidence in teachers to remain mature and to not force things on the kids.

Having Christian values taught as anything but literature is just oppressive. I'm not the whiny agnostic, but seriously.

Though I would love to see optional courses on all religions in school, I'd even take them.

Don't speak to me about oppressive, MANY things are oppressive today.

Try looking through the eyes of America's last true minority, the straight white Christian male.

Everything we stand for is wrong in someone's eyes and our rights are being depleted daily by an antagonistic society who feels that they owe everyone else something because of something my great great great grand parents did, or my grand parents did, or my parents did.

Don't come at me with this shit.

Try discussing the current state of the welfare system, the second i mention something about it I'm racist.

Try discussing the current lack of morals in today's society, the second i do I'm a religious zealot.

Try bitching about the current state of affairs in the world today, the second i do i'm a neo-con racist religious zealot.

bah.
