NVIDIA and ATI may have been fixing prices of their products for a while now, it is believed that they held secret meetings to discuss staged competition, chart out prices, timings of product launches among other things.

And to think I was going to buy a new video card soon.... Cocksuckers...

Isn't that illegal? Will there be repurcussions for both companies now? And how threatening would that be for both of them?

Of course it's illegal, hence the Class Actions being taken against them. And there BETTER be repercussions - if I found out my new $400 video card I just bought was only worth a mere $200, I'd be pissed.

What can you expect though? It's really only these two companies that are dominating the GPU market (Intel is a joke).

what does this mean in the long run

Hard to explain. Competition usually lowers prices. If they are fixing their prices, it means that they can rise their prices and still make them look that's how much it cost. Like Display's new bought Video card. If they weren't fixing price, it would be like 200 dollars or so, if they were fixing, they could double it. Since those are like the only 2 fierce GPU brands, they can manipulate the price.

So, will we see lower video card prices because of this? :D

Or no (good) video cards at all?

MAYBE Awol. If theres a price drop, it will only be slightly so. And Display, I think I know whats going to happen. They will probably make a nice story for the media and get a slap on the wrist for getting caught. Thats about it. Doesnt sound like Justice huh?

Oh and to clarify, what the companies did is pretty much working together, so pretty much they became one company in the sense that they could rise their price as high as they wanted because they had a monopoly on the market.

Thats for people who have no clue on whats going on.

Thank you for clarifying. I'm not as savvy with this market stuff.
