My brother is getting the new iPhone 3g, and I'm getting his old one. I want to get it without the data plan but still for cingular. Does anyone know any working way to do this? And also, does anyone know if I take a SIM card from a different phone, if I can use that in the iPhone and not get the data? I can't get a straight answer on google searching so I figured splak tech stuff is where I should go! |

I think if you just call them, tell them no data plan, you can do that. I am getting a 3g Iphone also. |

My brother is also getting the 3g and giving me his old one, Im not getting the data plan, too fucking poor to afford it but im getting the unlimited text plan. |

Yep, so you can do that and not get the data? I've heard ATT reps are trained to say that you can't... |

I called ATT this morning, and their rep said that there is no way to get it without data. I'm going to go into a store and talk to a manager specifically about it. I'll let you know how it goes. |

I figured it out. If you already have ATT then you can unlock your iphone. and just stick your sim card into the iphone. and if done correctly, you can use the phone for everything that isn't edge/3g. Only downside is you can't use the new firmware yet. There isn't a free crack yet. It should be out within a few weeks. This means no app store at the moment, but it shouldn't be long. |
