Post subject:  My new build is coming together

So here is my new build, not all the parts our out yet, so I have ordered what I can get. Peng, look over the water parts to double check me plz

Stuff I have sitting at my house still in boxes ready to build:

Antec P182 (got on sale for 110ish)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... tec%2bp182

4gb (2x2gb) DDR2-1066 (got on sale for 150)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6820231166

550w PSU (got on sale for 8 Bucks!!)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6817171016

Ordered today, it was about 400 total for all of this, not a bad price for a whole custom water cooling set:

Radbox (to mount my huge 3x 120mm radiator to the back of my case
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6835108084

Big ass radiator
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6835108098

Northbridge water cooler:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6835108079

Fan control box
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6811999171

4 of these fans (3 for the radiator, 1 for adding to my case or spare)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6835185060

D-TEK FuZion Universal CPU Waterblock
http://www.petrastechshop.com/dfuuncpubl1.html

20ft of water tubes
http://www.petrastechshop.com/7id5odmagepu.html

Reservoir (this keeps air out of the lines, and makes water cooling easier to add water)
http://www.petrastechshop.com/swmchire.html

Best pump out there
http://www.petrastechshop.com/laddcwpeddto.html

2 bottles of coolant
http://www.petrastechshop.com/peg11coadb4o.html

2 bottles of Biocide
http://www.petrastechshop.com/pepcobi1.html

14 clamps
http://www.petrastechshop.com/ststwohoclwb.html

What I have still have left to buy, going to buy all of this when my CPU comes out, in the next 2-3 weeks)

Motherboard - DFI x38
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813136042

Cpu - Core 2 Quad Q9450 rated at 2.66, should be running it around 4.0-4.2ghz, this chip should sell out fast, since it will do the same thing as the $1100 chip, for 1/3 the price.

Once I have all these parts I will build and overclock the beast off a spare drive and a crappy PCI video card. After the month or so it takes me to do that, I will order a 2nd raptor 150gb hard drive, setup a raid 0, and order a video card 9600gt or 9800gt.

Yeah, you only needed one bottle of biocide. but it's good to have a spare in case something happens to one. Just add about 2-3 drops of the biocide, depending on the amount of water you use. Everything else looks good to me. :D

I'll probably join the ranks of water cooling at some point, just for the hell of it. Possibly when i get money again.

Ya I kinda wanna build my own comp this summer. I mean it looks way cheaper to buy your own parts instead of going to best buy and spending shit load of cash money on one.

Is it hard to put everything together yourself though? Do you have to do any sort of initial programming?

no, no programming...

If everything is connected correctly, then your set. Just install your OS and follow the prompts, and your set.

Now if you want to overclock your processor then you will need to play around inside bios. But that would be only if you wanted to.

But, yes.. Much cheaper to make something much better. Just be warry, and make sure to check the parts.. Heard Chris found some interesting items on his mobo.

Oh, I got another question. Is water cooling that much better??

Well theyre overclocking and stuff, and this is their most l337 computer yet.

If you are building as a first-timer, I would just stick with a zalman cpu cooler and a bunch of antec fans.

What is overclocking anyway? (Sorry if it's a dumb question!) Is it like pushing the video card to teh maxzorz !!1eleventy!one!! ?

More than just that. you take the front side bus (i THINK speed at which some memory is processed..please correct me if I'm wrong) and up it, this in turn increases the CPU ghz.. Everyone currently building a computer will be able to hit alteast 3.8 on their procs. Most of us 4+

In turn, it puts out TONS of heat due to voltage increases and the like. Thus the need for awesome cooling, such as super air.. and.. WATER!!!!!111!!!111eleventyoneshift+1

Yeah, overclocking in my case is taking a quad 2.66ghz processor and running it at 4.0 (safely and not messing up the chip).

Thats the equivalent of four, pentium 4 at 8ghz chips by the way...

So this means without proper cooling you can basically melt your chip. Does this mean that you NEED water cooling for overclocking or are just fans good enough?
