Take a picture of your slots for us...

PCIe

AGP
http://www.servipc365.com/informatica/d ... io/agp.jpg

Color does not matter, look for the divider that is inside the slot, pcie x16 is on the left, while agp is on the right side of the slot.

it's on the left, wow, ok then, last time i put the card into the slot but it always leads from one problem to another, after i dealt with the problems, i read my manual that came with the card and it said "Please note: A PCI slot in colour is WHITE an AGP slot is BROWN in colour" (word from word, that's why i gave the slot a specific color) i'll give my card a shot again, see if i can manage something :S

wtf, it went from a new motherboard, to a new pc, to the difference between pci and AGP and now to troubleshoot why the video card doesn't work :?

1.3k? my parents will go berserk, they're only allowing me this stuff cuz i'm gonna be building it and they think it's good experience and it'll help me in the future or something lol when i find a pic to my vid card i'll post it, it's an XFX GeForce 8600 GT

here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150285

i can put it in the slot no problem, but when i plug my monitor into it, nothing shows, you can see some wiring, am i supposed to unplug that and put it in the motherboard or something? i don't want to screw up, so i'd rather be sure first

There's a place to plug it in.. There almost HAS to be, otherwise you wont be powering the fan, amongst other things, and thus.. No video.

You need to take some pictures of the card they sent to you, and post them.

The mark where you labeled Power is the bridge to setup an SLi.

An 8600 GT does not have an external power connector.
