Post subject:  Question About Video Cards.

Yeah So Like.. I wouldn't even have a damn clue if I opened up my comp and check the video card if it was either AGP,PCI, or PCI X. But I know it's not PCI X. It's either AGP or PCI.... how would i know this guys? Like in Device Manager, would it be under... System Devices? Because I mean.. I do see.. PCI Bus and Intel(R) 82801 PCI Bridge and stuff..

and if it is PCI...which card is better?

i think AGP is for older cards, i have never heard of PCI X, PCI-E is for like newer cards, PCI is like the same thing

i skimmed the 2 links, and the 2nd one is openGL 3.0, the first one is openGL 2.1, so if you run CZ with openGL, the 2nd link would make your shit better, but again, i skimmed, so don't take my advice 100%

PCI-E is PCI-Express slot on a motherboard (most video cards go here)

PCI X was to be meant PCI Express my bad i just shortened it. So PCI-E is basically PCI. Okay. So the 2nd card is better? And will this card be able to handle Left 4 Dead and any other games?

And i'm not sure if it's either PCI or AGP yet.... that card that i need that is..rofll...

PCI isnt PCI-E. Differnt speed and differnt slot. Depending on the money you are willing to spend depends on the best card.

What I am saying is you have PCI slots, everyone does, but they also have 1 or more "video card slots" that are either PCI express, or AGP, both are better than PCI, take a picture of your board, or tell me what make/model your computer is, and I will tell you what you can run.

Also, there is a small chance you have only PCI slots (some cheapo computers left off the video card slots so you cant upgrade them), open up your computer, look at the top slot, does it look different than all the rest, if so, take your card back, take a pic, or send me the make/model, and I will tell you what to get and you will get like 10x the performance.

We learned soemthing today: Before you buy something to upgrade your computer, always ask Cole first to see if it's right!

ehh i guess i forgot to tell you. i have an AGP slot and 3 PCI slots.. mm.. i mean.. i don't think that it's the card that's the problem though.

I am willing to bet that a PCI card running L4D is the problem, just switching to AGP will give you tons more interface speed.

PCI 2.2 = 133mb/sec

AGP 1.0 = 266mb/sec
AGP 2x = 533 mb/sec
AGP 4x = 1.06gb/sec
AGP 8x = 2.1 gb/sec <--- what you have

PCI Express x16 = 8 gb/s (4 max per way)
PCI Express x16 2.0 = 16 gb/s (8max per way)

As you can see my 9800gx2 on a PCI express x16 2.0 slot has over 120 times the interface bandwidth. You jumping to AGP would still be 15x the bandwidth.

then i wouldn't be able to play l4d right? i mean.. it does say 6600, and what if i were to change my motherboard and processor... would that increase the interface speed(just wondering if this is the alternative way).

Well of course if you change motherboards then you can get one with a PCI-E slot and run a better card. Just gonna cost more money in the long run.
