if i was you, i wouldnt think about it too much at this stage in your life. hate to sound like a hippy, but people's attitudes change all the time and you might be enlightened to travel down a path that doesn't lead you to the matrix. that being said, if you have your mind set on designing games, take basic art classes and programming classes b/c that is all that you will be studying. also, buy a java book and start reading it. its so large that by the time you get into college your freshman year, you might be done reading it and maybe understand some of the shit in it. the point is, dont burn yourself out. computer programming can make you nauseous after a while and it tends to burn people out after doing it for so long. granted high school classes are watered down, i wouldn't worry about take classes that "set you up". some background helps, but I dont think it is essential. you will learn what you need to learn when you hit college.

IMO, highschool had ZERO prep. for college. I had to re-learn everything anyway. All highschool's good for is getting the basic knowledge into your brain, and MAYBE getting you into a good college. Todays college's are more likely to pick you for racial reasons (no shit, I'm not bein' a prick about that) than they are on how well you peformed in highschool and on some tests. I graduated in the top 35% of my highschool, not very good, I know. However, ours is in the top 100 in the USA, used to be top 10.

All the shit from highschool didn't matter when I hit college. Had to take new tests to get in, then re-learn everything.

For the classes, I recommend DEFINTIALY taking computer programing, and design. However, if you go into computer design, be prepared to spend LOTS of money. Colleges will REQUIRE you to have certain programs and computers. Cousins had to spend 3grand each for Apple lap tops for their computer design classes. Just a heads up for the money issues that will arise.

If it's something you're truly serious about though, defintially go for it. After highschool, dive right in and take some summer courses at a community college on computer design, or programming.

high school is good for getting down a good study routine.

I took advanced classes in HS and played HS soccer/ Select soccer and worked part time and still managed to squeak by with a 2.5

I went to college and failed miserable because i wasn't able to get by w/out really studying. I had such poor study habits that i still wasn't able to easily do well. I never really learned how to study efficiently. Learn how to be proficient in reading/retaining information is the best advice i can offer, no matter what field you decide to go into.

for a career in the arts you get most of your experience from your own time practicing, copy off of comics(not trace) or pictures and you should get better and get your own style if you do it long enough. also, draw from human anatomy books, it really helps.

and for computer stuff just do what mav said basically

if you never said that i wouldn't have found out today so thanks alot :D

today we had to pick 4 electives and my first session i chose computer graphics, 2nd Academy classes (talked to Mr. Jones about Net admin lol, he's your teacher right? and he said brian was a cool guy ((lol)) :P hate how i gotta be a Jr. for that) when i'm a Sophmore i'll take A+ or something, but Mr. Jones said i should talk to my counselor before i think about that, 3rd i picked basic technical drawing (took your advice infamous :P) and 4th i picked web designing/programming and the teacher said 90% of the time we do programming, so i'm phsyched for next year. and for my future college i'm gonna try to get into Full Sail (thanks to .:Splak|Whiteboy for the idea) really good school for computers and what-not and i'd devote every single second to game designing cuz it's my dream :P
