I am doing my community service for that ticket I got a while back, and damn, I wasn't expecting this.

I got work at the art council for my town, the guy who does it is pretty cool. So they are holding a comedy show At a recently made all purpose activity area type thing in our town. It's a pretty cool place. When I get there( mind you I'm still on crutches, so everything is a little different) I meet the people in charge and begin setting up chairs(slowly). Soon after I start setting tables in the comedy area, along with two elderly women. I do not know how or why, but we talked for like 30 minutes since there was nothing to do, about everything, it was kinda odd. I did get a nice compliment on my name though.

After lighting the candles on the tables, We are introduced to the other volunteers, people from the local target who are doing this for some reason. This is were things get weird. One of the people's name is jerry(Gerry, i dunno) And I only see "her" from behind so i assume it's a women named Geraldine or something, I dunno. Well, later, upon seeing the front, I realize Jerry, has an Adam's apple and a deeper voice than me. This is the moment I figured out that this is the first transsexual I have seen in person. I'm dying inside, because I'm immature that way. The next person is a girl around 20, and pregnant. The older ladies gave her the look of death(She was unwed, or at least had no ring, kinda hot, but dirty as shit) which also made me laugh. The other two target ladies were older and had kids, so not so funny there. The last volunteer, a guy I actually saw before, was a big guy with purple hair Which I have heard is gay. Again, my five year old humor kicks in.

The actual show was Etta May, from southern fried chicks(kinda blue collar comedy tour-ish females) who had another one of those girls open for her. I personally hate blue collar comedy guys, but I can say this, Etta may has a hell of a live show.(I'm watching this not only for free mind you, but for community service.) That pretty much sums it up, but I still have 21 hours to do, so this could possibly have a sequel story.

Wow. My community service fucking SUCKED compared to what yours is.. I had to go out to a park across from the Juvenile Detention Center in Houston and move huge piles of cut branches to one big pile on the side of the park. It was summer, about 95degrees, and we had to wear work boots, black pants, and a collared shirt. Not exactly the manual labor outfit you'd expect.

The park was huge, and there were JDC Officers and Guards yelling at you the whole time. You weren't allowed to sit down or your hours wouldn't count. You'd get a 3 minute break every 2 hours to get some water, and got a 30 minute break 6 hours in (halfway) to eat a sandwich, which the girls' side of the community service gathering made (so probably spit and stuff in it). All the kids there besides me were between 13-16, I was 17, had got busted for pot when I was 16, so luckily I didnt have to do Adult Labor. All of them were punks though. Little gangster kids throwing gang signs at each other and getting in each others faces, only to get screamed at by the officers. There were about 50 of us there, and I must have been the oldest. I felt so out of place.

The rest of the day went the same, did probably 150 drags of 70-100 pound piles of branches that were cut down after having dangled too low in the park. most excruciating manual labor I've ever done, and I've done a lot of it. I mowed yards for 2 years before I was 16 with a friend of mine, and have wheelbarrowed tons of dirt and sand on multiple occasions when helping my dad build ponds for our house in Houston, both sets of my grandparents, and some old neighbors who moved into the back of my parent's neighborhood in 2000. I also had to mow/weed-eat/and edge my parents' yard every week in the summer in high school until my senior year, and they have a pretty big front yard with an even bigger backyard. I know my share of physical work.

Nothing has ever been as tiring as that day at the JDC.

Consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky.

I know. I could have ended up changing diapers at the old folks home too. Instead I watch stand up.
